Namaste Saté [2011]

Note from Ben Stamper (Musician and Director of Sau Guna)

First off, I highly recommend the full-fledged-official-physical copy of this CD. In an era where mp3 singles rule the airwaves, ARADHNA has gone and created a total album, as conceptually complete from package to recording as any of the precious vinyl on my record player. But I digress…
Listening to this album from start to finish is like slowly drifting towards an iceberg in a rowboat. From a distance it sits charming with serene and shimmering melodies that we’ve all come to expect from ARADHNA. Edging nearer one will discover it’s all there: delicate composites of modern poetry and ancient couplets that are whispered, sung and yes, screamed in no less than six languages; pitch-perfect tablas punctuating their way through ambient electric guitar; the steely vibrations of the weathered sitar riding along the currents of the perfectly articulated bass and cello lines – Yes, ARADHNA has fully delivered the long-anticipated follow up to the epic Amrit Vani (2007) and there is no filler to be found anywhere on the horizon. But as you listen on, the initial lap of tranquility subsides as the song’s arrangements begin looming over like blinding mythic monoliths, making the listener aware of the fragility of their existence cast against the massive soundscape that is Namaste Saté . This is that rare, duty-free territory where true art and true worship can happily co-exist. With all of the force and conviction of musicians who have long since toiled for such things in life and craft, this is a record that points below the surface of things where the real content lies. Like any truly great album, the deeper one dives into Namaste, the more musical and lyrical treasure turns up.
Over the years, ARADHNA has defined a sound that is at once intimate and immense that comes from the irresistible melding of Eastern and Western aesthetics. Namaste Saté not only carries on this tradition, but also deepens the possibilities of cultural and spiritual contextualization in the most winsome and genuine of ways. All this while compelling me to blow out my car stereo speakers with excitement.
